30,000 parents and grandparents will be drawn and invited to immigrate to Canada. This raffle will take place during September 2021. Two weeks after it, the corresponding invitations will be sent to those selected, who will have only 60 days to upload their sponsorship applications to the Canadian government migration portal.
This was mentioned by Marco Mendicino in a conference last Tuesday, July 20, in Surrey, British Columbia. IRCC will attract 30,000 applicants who previously submitted an interest form to sponsor between October and November 2020 during last year’s PGP intake period.
Additionally IRCC selected 10,000 potential sponsors from January 2021 and now another 30,000 applicants will be invited under the same lottery process. Importantly, those who were not selected to apply in 2020 can be considered in the next PGP 2021 draw.
IRCC invites Canadian citizens and permanent residents interested in sponsoring their parents and grandparents to immigrate to Canada to make sure they have their correct information, with up-to-date dates and contact details.
Applicants for PGP sponsorship must be at least 18 years of age or older, Canadian citizens, permanent residents or First Nations status, and have the means to support the family members they would be sponsoring.
The minimum necessary income (MNI) is a fundamental factor to be eligible, IRCC will evaluate this data for each sponsor from the years 2018 to 2020. This proof of income will only be presented after having applied with the online form. However due to the pandemic IRCC will only evaluate its NMI for the year 2020 considering not evaluating 30% and also applicants can count the benefits of Employment Insurance (EI) and the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) for their NMI for fiscal year 2020.
